Musical Drama Streets Alive - George Town Heboh !
by Ombak Muda, Ombak Ombak Studio

Ombak Muda children perform the history of Lebuh Acheh, Armenian and Cannon in a musical-dance-theatre. Created by the young people themselves, the 20 minute performance will feature singing, rap, gamelan pieces, as well as music using everyday objects and movements. Based on research and interviews with residents, the music, texts and movements are based on the activities and legends of the people living in the 3 streets. There was constant hustle and bustle with pilgrims going toMecca, White and Red flag activities, clanging from recycle shops, chingay competitions between gangs, 5 kopitiam where the young and old could eat and socialize day and night. Young people could play games in the streets and at the Youth Centre. Yes, the streets were alive!  What has become of these streets today?  The children will enlighten us!

The F.D.F was formed after two of our crew member's generated an idea of having a Dhol group in Penang Free School. This idea was then spread to all the Punjabi/Sikh students in Penang Free School and received a positive feedback. We then combined ourself's and came up with the name the Frees Dhol Federation. We were then informed of a vacant performance during the Teacher's Day Celebration at Penang Free School, without further delay we quickly grabbed the opportunity to perform there. Although the training was hard and we only had 3 days to practice due to exams, we put up a fantastic performance and received a good feedback from the student's and teacher's of Penang Free School. Thus, we were officially launched on the 26th of May 2011.

Hokkien Folk Rhymes by Neighborhood Performance Group
路人甲表演社呈献戏剧“福建童谣”

Neighborhood Performance Group was formed on August 30, 2010. The members are from various background including journalists, teachers, sales manager and executive, engineers, designers, hair stylist, makeup artist, writers, theatre performers, undergraduate students, living in different places all over Peninsular Malaysia and even Taiwan.
They have chosen 'neighborhood' as our group's name with no doubt because it accurately represent our stand toward art: Art should be a part of our ordinary life, but not an utopia. Art is just like the kindful and lovely neighbor around you, dancing and beating with the rthym of your everyday life.
